Our Transportation to the San Blas Islands

Are you considering taking one of our San Blas Tours? Wondering how you will get to the islands from Panama City? Let us introduce our 4×4 vehicles and island boats! Getting to the San Blas Islands is all part of the adventure. The journey begins in Panama City with a transfer through the jungle mountains of Guna Yala in a 4×4 vehicle.

The road to San Blas passes through jungle mountains and requires specialised vehicles. For this reason, we use large 4×4 vehicles for all our transfers. These vehicles are designed for the road conditions and provide a reliable way to reach the port where boats depart for the islands.

Seating in Our 4×4 Vehicles to San Blas

Each of our SUVs has three rows of seats and seats up to six passengers.

The seating layout is:

  • 1 front seat
  • 3 middle-row seats
  • 2 rear seats

All passengers pay the same community-set transportation fare, but comfort may vary depending on the seat location.

Optional Comfort Upgrades for Your 4×4 San Blas Transfer

During the booking process, guests who prefer additional comfort during the drive can choose one of the following options.

Front Passenger Seat

Price: $25 USD per person

The front seat offers extra space and is often preferred by guests who experience motion sickness or simply want more room during the journey.

Middle Row Reserved for Two People

Price: $25 USD per person

The middle row normally seats three passengers. Guests can choose to reserve this row for only two people, which is a popular option for couples who prefer more space.

Private 4×4 Vehicle

Price: depends on group size

For groups or guests who prefer a more private experience, it is possible to reserve a private 4×4 vehicle. This option allows your group to travel together without other passengers.

Boat Transfers Between the San Blas Islands

Once you reach the port, transportation continues by boat to the islands. Your journey across the water takes place in a traditional panga, a fiberglass boat with an outboard motor. These boats are operated by local Guna captains with extensive experience navigating the surrounding waters.

Pangas are efficient and authentic forms of transportation in San Blas, but don’t expect luxury. They typically have canvas roofs for sun protection, although ocean splashes are common during the ride! Do you have any questions about our San Blas Islands transportation?
